  • 【Ikura Cave Takahashi River Upstream Prefectural Natural Park, a natural monument designated by Okayama Prefecture】
Ikura Cave, a natural monument designated by Okayama Prefecture,
This 1,200m-long limestone cave was formed over many years by erosion from rainwater and other factors in the limestone area of the Atetsu Plateau in Ikura, Niimi City.
Ikura Cave, which is also designated as a Takahashi River Upstream Prefectural Natural Park in Okayama Prefecture, has an entrance on the wall of a 240m-high cliff that towers upright along the Takahashi River. The various shapes of stalactites, such as icicles hanging from the ceiling inside the cave and stalagmites rising from the bottom like bamboo shoots, are illuminated, creating a truly fantastical world, like a beautiful stone curtain. The water that drips into the cave contains calcium carbonate, and when it piles up, it forms stones again, creating about 30 strange rocks with names such as "Silver Reed," "Mizugoromo," and "Kurage Rock." These strange rocks, along with the 50m-high "Axis Waterfall" that flows inside the cave, allow visitors to fully enjoy the fascinating art of nature.
